Immediate acceleration - Begin to provide the resources or connections to resources that projects need now. We propose to think about this through the Levels of Work framework (Operate, Maintain Effectiveness, Improve or Evolve Systems, Regenerate), which allows us to distinguish among the nature of resources that are actually needed in a given context.
Near-term innovation - We see an opportunity to leverage the networks of resources already available through developing their capability and capacity to deliver support at all four levels of work. Specifically, we envision gathering onto the working group champions from a number of existing networks whose work is aligned with ours, and assisting them to support leadership teams who are endeavoring to build the capabilities and capacities of network members. There’s a need to develop an infrastructure that facilitates projects gaining access to the resources they need. In particular, we see a need to create a platform that will facilitate a developmental dialogue among projects, enabling them to learn from and support one another, as well as dialogue among existing networks.
Deep transformation - In the longer term, this work is about growing regenerative consciousness at all levels of society, so that projects are originated, designed, implemented, and evolved in use from a regenerative mode of thinking. This means that projects are first and foremost developmental in their intent. Their most important result is the transformation of thinking in everyone involved and this is reflected in the ways that they are carried out and the indicators by which success is measured. Therefore we see a need for people to profoundly reframe how they conceptualize projects: what they are, what purposes they serve, and how they get created. This reframing would then be reflected in the evolution of professional practices, community expectations, and the processes used by governing bodies.
This scope will be adjusted over time as the Working Group learns together, develops additional capacities and capabilities, and builds new linkages throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. Working group members maintain a wide range of connections with important related initiatives, including those of other Common Earth Alliance working groups, and will seek to integrate activities in ways that are mutually beneficial. In addition, there will be a strong focus on nature-based solutions for sequestering green and blue carbon.
